How it works
A few minutes are enough. After that, Alpine updates itself.
-
Install Alpine
For free from Google Play, on a phone or tablet running Android 8.0 or later. Coming soon to Google Play
-
Choose your location
On first launch, Alpine offers to use your approximate location. You can decline and choose a place by hand: tap "Location" at the top of the home screen, then search for a city, tap the map or enter coordinates.
-
Set Alpine as your wallpaper
On Alpine's home screen, tap "Set as wallpaper". Android shows a preview: confirm, then choose the home screen, the lock screen or both, depending on your phone.
-
Let the landscape adapt, or choose it
By default, Alpine picks the landscape for your region and the season. In "Landscapes", you can force a region or a season; the "Image" button lets you use your own photo.
-
The weather updates itself
While Alpine is displayed, the forecast is updated at most once an hour. The "Refresh" button on the home screen requests it again if it is out of date. In "Settings", you can space out updates or limit them to Wi-Fi.
-
Explore the sun, moon and seasons
"Previews" opens the simulator: pick a time, weather, moon phase or date to see the rendering, then return to automatic mode whenever you like.
-
Optional: create landscapes with AI
Optional. In "Landscapes", generation section, choose OpenAI and save your own API key. It is encrypted on the phone and can be deleted at any time.
- Each image created is billed by OpenAI to your account. Tip: use a dedicated key and set a spending limit in your OpenAI account.
- Without a key, Alpine works fully with its 28 landscapes.
